How does Aromatherapy Work?

Aromatherapy is a holistic healing modality that uses natural plant extracts to promote emotional, physical and spiritual health and well-being.

The essential oils are most often extracted from the plant source through distillation or cold pressing.

To receive and enjoy the benefits of aromatherapy, inhalation is ideal, both for their amazing scent and their therapeutic properties. They can also be used in diffusers and humidifiers, as well as diluted with a carrier oil and applied to the skin. (Think aromatherapy massage)

Inhaling essential oils stimulates the olfactory system, the part of the brain connected to smell molecules that enter the nose or mouth pass to the lungs, and from there, to other parts of the body.

When essential oils are topically applied to skin with a carrier massage oil, molecules enter the bloodstream.

As the molecules travel our body and reach the brain, they affect our limbic system; which is linked to our emotions, our heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress, and hormones. This promotes holistic balancing of mind, body and spirit.

Different oils have different benefits and effects.

As well as smelling incredible, essential oils can have a subtle, yet healing effect on the body.

Aromatherapy has been practiced for many years, and as well as being a blissful experience to give to yourself, it is a natural and simple way to welcome balance, rest and calmness to your life.
